Since its opening in 1979, the Fullerton Arboretum has served the community as a resource for ecological, horticultural, and historical education. During 2004, the Arboretum celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Fullerton Arboretum is the largest and oldest botanical garden in Orange County, and it encompasses 26 lush acres, filled with over 4,000 unique and unusual plant species from around the world. With its ponds, streams and wildlife, it offers a tranquil retreat from a fast-paced urban life.

Passion flower

The Arboretum exhibits plants from around the world in four main collections: Mediterranean, Woodland, Desert, and Cultivated. Its collections demonstrate a variety of plants suitable to the Southern California climate. We have also been designated as the official Citrus Collection steward for the United States. The Arboretum provides a lovely setting for garden weddings, receptions, and private events, as well promotes the conservation of water and environment and the use of native plants.

The Arboretum is also a very special place. Without going far from home, you can inhale the fragrances of the Mediterranean, feel the cool shade of the redwood forest, delight in the glorious fall color of the northeastern United States, hear the rustle of palm trees, take a break in a desert oasis, laugh at the funny forms of succulents, and breath in the perfume of old fashion roses. The Fullerton Arboretum helps visitors to understand the diversity of the world’s plant life and the importance of protecting the earth’s treasures.

Silk floss

The Arboretum has provided thousands of visitors over the years with both an educational and emotional experience, not matched by any other local botanical garden. We have hundred’s of dedicated volunteers, who spend thousands of hours a year to ensure this little treasure remains one the “jewels” in Orange County.
