One of the hallmarks or distinguishing features of any botanical institution is the quality and diversity of its special collections or exhibits, in addition to its regular plant collection. At the Fullerton Arboretum, we have planned a long-term exhibit development strategy that will be implemented over the next several years. At this time, three (3) significant special exhibits are done or under construction. They are the Channel Island Exhibit, one our first premier exhibits which focuses exclusively on plants from the nearby Channel Islands in California.

We planted a Perennial Garden in 2006 which now surrounds the front of our main offices in Oak Hall, and continues to increase in size through more plantings and care by dedicated volunteers.

The newest exhibit under construction is the Mojave Desert Exhibit, which will focus on cactus and related plants from the Southern California Mojave Desert.

Our future exhibits include the following. We have the following stated goal when planning our future exhibits: “Creating exhibits that reflect the natural environment and agriculture heritage, as appropriate.”

Chilean Exhibit

Southwestern Australia Exhibit

South Africa Exhibit

Southwestern Madagascar Exhibit

Southern California Grassland Exhibit

Citrus Collection

Other special exhibits will be considered in the future, depending on funding and donor support.
