Basic Requirements and Rules |

An annual fee of $100.00, payable to Fullerton Arboretum, is due at signing of a formal Agreement. The fee includes reasonable use of water to maintain the garden plot and is not refundable. Garden plots will be open for users only during the Arboretum’s regular open hours, 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. seven days a week. Community Gardeners may not garden in their plots on Thanksgiving Day, December 25, January 1, during special events or during times when the Arboretum closes for other reasons.
Garden plots are approximately 15’ x 15’ in size. Community Gardeners must supply their own tools, plants, seeds and clean up materials.
The plots will be checked by the Arboretum staff weekly. If a plot has weeds, grass, dead or dying plant material, or becomes unsightly, the plot user will be notified by 1st class mail and asked to correct the situation. If the situation persists, a second warning will be mailed notifying the user of the commencement of a two-week probationary period. If the situation is not corrected within this two-week period, the plot will be forfeited.
Plots must be neat and presentable at all times. Leaving tools, construction materials, and unused plant cages, bags of soil amendments or fertilizer in the plot is prohibited as they constitute an eyesore. The gardens are not to be used for storage.
Fences up to 42” high only are allowed; chicken wire may not be used for fencing. All new fence construction must be the same as the picket fence at the Children’s Garden and may be waterproofed or stained only. Existing fences will be permitted to remain until the plot is relinquished or any changes are being made to the fence.
Vehicles are not permitted on the Fullerton Arboretum grounds. Vehicles should be parked in the Arboretum public parking lot. Tools and other materials must be carried in. Handicapped parking permits can be arranged with the Arboretum staff. Vehicles entering the Arboretum grounds without prior authorization by Arboretum staff will result in a citation from CSUF Public Safety officers.
Notes from Arboretum staff to garden users may be left on the garden bulletin board. It is the responsibility of gardeners to check the bulletin board frequently. Notes for the Garden Staff may be left at the Reception Desk in Oak Hall (Main Office).
Gardeners are responsible for the disposal of all refuse from their plots. They must carry their own plant refuse and clippings to the dumpster in the Arboretum maintenance area.
Removal of tools, fruit or vegetables or any plant from the Arboretum grounds that did not originate in the gardeners’ own plot, by any gardener, his/her family or friends will result in forfeiture of the Violator’s plot.
The formal Agreement with the Arboretum is subject to cancellation with or without cause by ten (10) days written notice by either party. The Arboretum is not responsible for damages or losses within community gardens, caused by Fullerton Arboretum personnel or others.
The use of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and miticides is not allowed. If you think you need to use these products, contact (714) 278-3407. If you have any general questions covering availability of a Community Garden plot or interpretation of the rules and regulations, please contact us.
