Background

The Chaparral Society is our premier support group. Chaparral Society donors are recognized for annual gifts at $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, $5,000, $7,500 and $10,000.

The Chaparral Society was founded in 2005 by a group of members who truly cared about the future of the Fullerton Arboretum and could see that the funding from both the University and the city was not keeping up with the cost of maintaining maturing gardens as well as developing new gardens such as The Channel Islands Garden.

Thus, the time had come for the Arboretum to plan, organize and aggressively execute an annual campaign in support of continuing operations and growth. This campaign enlists donors who commit to annual gifts in amounts of $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, $5,000, $7,500 and $10,000. Donors are recognized at three locations in the Arboretum. The result of this campaign have been the addition of one CSUF educated botanist as a full time gardener, two student, part time gardeners, the construction of a trail bridge, a replacement gazebo, the beautiful demonstration garden surrounding Oak Hall, the very popular Pumpkin Patch in the fall and the California Wild Flower Garden in the spring. The plant identification signs are increasing in number every week, and hundreds of new plants are throughout the grounds, most recently, Chaparral Hill.

The Garden is Showing New Life.

There is much yet to be done, such as the Mojave Desert Garden, now in the planning stages. Also, there remains the ongoing expense of continuous pruning, replanting, irrigation, weed control, and general clean up.

After seeing the results of their gifts, many members have increased their level of annual donations, but the Arboretum needs your support as well. Please consider joining the ranks of The Chaparral Society so that this beautiful garden oasis in the midst of urbanization may flourish.
