The Fullerton Arboretum is pleased that the local KOFU Bonsai Kai Club will hold their annual Bonsai Exhibit (show) and demonstrations on October 18 & 19, 2008 on the grounds of the Arboretum, appropriately called “The Art of Bonsai.” This show is scheduled to be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days and admission is free.
In 1977, a nucleus of bonsai enthusiasts under the leadership of Harry Hirao, master bonsai teacher, celebrated demonstrator and collector of bonsai, joined together in forming Kofu Bonsai Kai in Orange County. Harry was able to bring many of the other Japanese and American masters of bonsai to Orange County to share their expertise with interested students and give demonstrations, workshops and programs to the members of Kofu Bonsai Kai. Since its origin in 1977, Kofu Bonsai Kai has rapidly become one of the top ranking bonsai clubs in California.
Demonstrations highlighting the creation of beautiful bonsai trees will be held both days at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. by bonsai experts. As a special bonus, visitors may purchase raffle tickets at the door for a chance to win one of these prized demonstration bonsai trees each day, plus a year of free bonsai lessons from a bonsai expert (10 lessons) and an annual membership for one in the Kofu Bonsai Kai Club. Proceeds from this raffle benefit the Fullerton Arboretum.
This show will highlight several extraordinary and spectacular examples of bonsai craftsmanship and club members will be on hand to answer questions and discuss bonsai design, care and maintenance. For more information on the KOFU Bonsai Kai Club, go to www.kofukai.org.
