2011 Salvia Spectacular Sale
September 10 & 11, 2011

The Salvia Spectacular sale returns this year with more than 125 varieties of Salvia on sale. This sale marks the official re-opening of the Potting Shed, which is closed the entire month of August.

Commonly known as sages, Salvia are the largest genus in the mint family. They grow throughout the world, from sea level to altitudes of more than 11,000 feet. Their many forms include perennial, biennial, annual, herb varieties as well as evergreen and deciduous shrubs. They are noteworthy for their resistance to pests and disease, and attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

This year, keep an eye out for Salvia subrotunda. Known as Hummingbird Sage, this species blooms year round and grows around 3-5 feet tall. It features tubular red flowers and prefers full sun.

Also, keep the Salvia caymanensis on your radar. Cayman Sage is a perennial sage native to the Cayman Islands. It grows between 2-3 feet tall and has pale blue flowers. This variety was once thought to be extinct for almost 50 years in its native area.
